Core standards
Evidence before explanation
Answers should be grounded in authorized records, dates, sources, and clearly identified patient-entered information.
Traceability
Important statements should remain connected to the records that support them so the Veteran can verify context.
Uncertainty stays visible
Missing, conflicting, or unclear information should be identified rather than silently filled in.
Clinical authority remains human
Licensed professionals retain responsibility for diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, and medical decisions.
Preparation, not replacement
PBRx may organize questions and create summaries, but it does not replace an appointment or establish a treatment plan.
Clear emergency limits
PBRx does not provide emergency monitoring or crisis response and should not delay urgent care.
AI answers in context
PBRx is intended to explain information already present in the Veteran’s authorized record and connect it across time. Diagnostic terms may be described, but the system does not independently diagnose. A generated response should be treated as preparation for verification and discussion.
Corrections and professional review
If a source record appears inaccurate, the Veteran should work with the facility or professional responsible for that record. PBRx should preserve the original source and distinguish any user-provided clarification from the official document.
